What Is the CMA Course?

CMA stands for Cost and Management Accountant. It is a professional qualification awarded by the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI).

The course trains you in cost accounting, management accounting, financial analysis, taxation, and business strategy - making you ready for finance leadership roles in companies, PSUs, Big 4 firms, and government bodies.

The full CMA course has three levels - Foundation, Intermediate, and Final - covering 20 papers in total. After completing all three levels and 15 months of practical training, you become a certified CMA.

Can I start the CMA course after 12th?â–¼

Yes. After passing 10+2 from any stream under any recognized board, you are eligible for the CMA Foundation. No minimum percentage is required by ICMAI.

Can I skip CMA Foundation if I am already a graduate?â–¼

Yes. Under the ICMAI Direct Entry Scheme, graduates from any stream except Fine Arts can join CMA Intermediate directly without appearing for Foundation. This saves approximately 6 months.

How long does the full CMA course take to complete?â–¼

Starting after 12th grade, the full CMA course typically takes 3.5 to 4 years, including Foundation, Intermediate, Final, and 15 months of mandatory practical training. Starting after graduation via direct entry cuts this down to around 2.5 to 3 years.
