CMA December 2026 Preparation Strategy: 70-Day Study Plan for Foundation, Inter & Final

Yes, 70 days can be enough for the CMA December 2026 examination, provided you already have part of the syllabus behind you and you use the days for a balanced mix of learning, practice and revision, not lectures alone. Start today by mapping every paper against the official syllabus. Then use roughly the first half of the window to finish the syllabus and the second half to revise it. Finishing a chapter once is not the same as being exam-ready: revision means recalling and solving without the book open. Begin previous year question papers (PYQs) after your first revision, and take timed mock tests in the last three weeks. Foundation, Intermediate and Final sit on different dates, so each level gets its own adaptation below.

CMA December 2026 Preparation: Quick Answer

Start with syllabus mapping: list every paper, mark what is finished, half-done or untouched. Divide the 70 days into three jobs: learning (about 40 days), revision plus PYQs (about 15 days) and mock tests plus weak areas (about 15 days). Prioritise papers by remaining syllabus, difficulty and your own weak spots, and check the official ICMAI syllabus before deciding what to skip. Use PYQs to learn the question style, not to guess "important questions". Keep separate strategies for Foundation (MCQ-based), Intermediate and Final (descriptive and application-heavy). Reserve the last 5 days for short notes, formulas and light practice, not new chapters. No plan guarantees a result; outcomes depend on your existing preparation, daily hours and consistency.

CMA December 2026 Exam Dates and Preparation Timeline

Official information (ICMAI, December 2026 term):

The paper-wise Intermediate and Final schedule, as published by ICMAI, alternates between the two groups. Please cross-check against the official timetable PDF on the ICMAI Updates & Announcements page before finalising your plan.

16 DecCost Accounting (Group I)Strategic Cost Management (Group III)
17 DecManagement Accounting (Group II)Elective, one of three papers (Group IV)

How the dates change your preparation:

  • Foundation is a single-day exam, so there is no gap between papers to recover in. Your preparation has to be even across all four papers.
  • Intermediate and Final students appearing for one group have a one-day gap between papers. Students appearing for both groups write on eight consecutive days, so stamina and revision speed matter as much as knowledge.
  • The exam form deadline falls inside Phase 1 of your plan (10 October for Intermediate/Final, 14 October for Foundation). File it in the first week so it never competes with study time.

For a fuller schedule, including result dates, see SAC's CMA December 2026 exam dates guide. For fees and the step-by-step process, see the CMA December 2026 exam form guide.

Is it really 70 days? Counted from 29 September, there are 72 days to the first Intermediate/Final paper (10 December) and 75 days to Foundation (13 December). If you start on 1 October, Day 70 is 9 December, the eve of your first Intermediate/Final paper. Foundation students get three extra buffer days. If you start later, do not abandon the plan; compress each phase proportionally.

CMA December 2026 70-Day Study Plan

Practical preparation advice, not an ICMAI rule. Day 1 = 1 October.

PhaseDaysMain goalWhat to do
Phase 1Days 1–20 (1–20 Oct)Syllabus mapping and first passDay 1: map the syllabus paper by paper. Start with numerical or weakest-foundation papers. Finish the exam form. Solve 10–15 questions after every topic.
Phase 2Days 21–40 (21 Oct–9 Nov)Complete remaining topicsFinish the first pass of every paper. Keep one buffer day per week for festivals and slippage. Make one-page formula and concept sheets as you go.
Phase 3Days 41–55 (10–24 Nov)Revision 1 and PYQsRecall-based revision from your sheets, then solve PYQs topic-wise, untimed. Start your error log.
Phase 4Days 56–65 (25 Nov–4 Dec)Mock tests and weak areasTimed full-paper mocks, analysed the same day. Repair the two or three chapters costing you most marks.
Phase 5Days 66–70 (5–9 Dec)Final revisionShort notes, formulas, error log. Light practice only. No new chapters.

Students who feel lost on where to begin can compare batch options through SAC's CMA courses page or check whether the CMA coaching with test series format suits their remaining time.

CMA Foundation December 2026: 70-Day Study Plan

CMA Foundation has four papers under ICMAI's Syllabus 2022: Fundamentals of Business Laws and Business Communication; Fundamentals of Financial and Cost Accounting; Fundamentals of Business Mathematics and Statistics; and Fundamentals of Business Economics and Management. The papers are MCQ-based, so accuracy and speed matter more than long answers. For chapter-level detail, use SAC's CMA Foundation syllabus and paper pattern guide and verify against the ICMAI syllabus.

  • Days 1–20, concept building: Begin with Financial and Cost Accounting and Business Mathematics and Statistics, since both need regular calculation practice. Give 60–90 minutes each evening to Business Laws and Communication so it stays warm.
  • Days 21–40, remaining syllabus plus questions: Complete Business Economics and Management and any pending chapters. Solve MCQs in blocks of 25 after each chapter.
  • Days 41–55, revision and PYQs: One full recall revision of all four papers, then topic-wise PYQs.
  • Days 56–65, mocks: Simulate the exam day: two 2-hour blocks with a break, mirroring the two-shift pattern. Track accuracy per paper.
  • Days 66–70 (plus 3 buffer days), final revision: Formula sheets, definitions, legal provisions and high-error chapters from your log.

Choosing books is a common bottleneck; SAC's best books for CMA Foundation guide covers that. If you are starting from Class 12, the CMA Foundation preparation guide covers the long-term approach, while this article is about using the days that remain.

6 hours3 hrs (two papers, split)1 hr 45 min1 hr 15 min
8 hours3 hrs 30 min2 hrs 30 min2 hrs (including weekly recap)

For how study hours relate to your level, see SAC's article on how many hours to study for CA/CMA daily.

CMA Intermediate December 2026: 70-Day Study Plan

Intermediate has eight papers in two groups. The Intermediate papers are written, so answer structure and numerical accuracy both count. Do not assume every student attempts both groups; the plan depends on that decision.

Subject rotation: Pair one numerical paper with one conceptual paper each day (for example Cost Accounting with Business Laws and Ethics) so neither goes cold. Numerical or practical papers include Financial Accounting, Cost Accounting, Management Accounting, Corporate Accounting and Auditing, and Financial Management and Business Data Analytics. Conceptual or law-heavy papers include Business Laws and Ethics and Operations Management and Strategic Management. Taxation sits between the two.

One Group (four papers)

  • Days 1–40: about 10 study days per paper for the first pass.
  • Days 41–55: revision plus PYQs, one paper per 3–4 days.
  • Days 56–65: one full mock per paper, spaced to match the exam-date gaps.
  • Days 66–70: short notes and formulas.

Both Groups (eight papers)

  • Days 1–40: only about 5 study days per paper. This works only if you already covered a good share of each paper. Otherwise, consider one group.
  • Days 41–55: revision runs faster, roughly 2 days per paper, using your one-page sheets.
  • Days 56–65: alternate Group I and Group II mocks to build eight-day stamina.
  • Days 66–70: formula and concept sheets for all eight papers.

Both groups together saves an attempt for many students, and SAC's CMA Inter first-attempt tips explain that trade-off in more detail.

CMA Intermediate Daily Study Plan

Study timeNew conceptsQuestion practiceRevision + PYQs
6 hours2 hrs 30 min2 hrs1 hr 30 min
8 hours3 hrs2 hrs 30 min2 hrs 30 min
10 hours3 hrs 30 min3 hrs3 hrs 30 min

As Phase 3 begins, shift the balance: new concepts shrink toward zero, while revision plus PYQs grows.

CMA Final December 2026: 70-Day Study Plan

CMA Final has eight papers in two groups: Group III (Corporate and Economic Laws, Strategic Financial Management, Direct Tax Laws and International Taxation, Strategic Cost Management) and Group IV (Cost and Management Audit, Corporate Financial Reporting, Indirect Tax Laws and Practice, plus one elective from three options). Confirm subject details from the official syllabus.

  • Conceptual and law papers: Build structured notes with headings you can reproduce in an answer script.
  • Practical and numerical papers: Solve full problems with proper working, not just final answers.
  • Application-based preparation: Practise reading a scenario, identifying the issue and applying the provision. SAC's own analysis of recent results notes that presentation matters at Final as much as content.
  • Answer writing: From Day 30, write at least one full answer daily against a timer.
  • Phases: Days 1–40 first pass; Days 41–55 revision and PYQs; Days 56–65 full-length written mocks; Days 66–70 short notes.

One group versus both follows the same logic as Intermediate, but with heavier papers, so be conservative about attempting both groups if your syllabus is incomplete.

CMA Final Daily Study Plan

Should You Prepare One Group or Both Groups in December 2026?

There is no universal best answer. Decide with these five checks:

  1. Syllabus completed: If you have finished less than half of the papers in a group, that group is at risk.
  2. Available time: Both groups leave only about 5 first-pass days per paper. One group leaves about 10.
  3. Previous preparation: A candidate reattempting with prior coverage can often carry both groups. A first-time candidate often cannot.
  4. Revision capacity: Can you finish one revision of all papers within 15 days? If not, cut a group.
  5. Mock performance: If your Phase 3 PYQ scores in a group stay well below passing, focus on the stronger group.

ICMAI passing criteria (40% in each paper and 50% aggregate, per the June 2026 result coverage on SAC) mean one weak paper can undo the others, so a smaller, better-prepared scope is often safer.

How to Prioritize CMA Subjects in 70 Days

Rank each paper on seven factors, scoring each from 1 to 5:

  1. Remaining syllabus
  2. Conceptual difficulty
  3. Your strengths and weaknesses
  4. PYQ practice done so far
  5. Official syllabus coverage (what is in scope)
  6. Revision still required
  7. Mock-test performance

Papers scoring highest get more hours, but never zero hours for any paper. Re-score at Day 20, Day 40 and Day 55. The most useful habit is giving extra time to the weakest paper rather than the favourite one.

High-Weightage CMA Topics for December 2026

ICMAI does not guarantee chapter-wise weightage. Any list circulating online is an analysis of past papers, not an official prediction. The one official reference is the syllabus document itself: check whether it lists section-wise weightage ranges for your paper, and use only those as an official signal. Historical patterns can help you decide sequence, but they must not decide what you skip.

How to Use CMA Previous Year Question Papers in 70 Days

  • When to start: After your first revision (around Day 41). Before that, PYQs cost time without giving feedback.
  • How many years: Aim for the last four to five sittings for each paper, more if time allows.
  • Map to syllabus: Tag every question to a chapter. Chapters with repeated questions get earlier revision.
  • Analyse mistakes: Classify each error as concept gap, calculation slip, misread question or time pressure.
  • Recurring concepts: Note question styles that repeat, not just topics.
  • Timed practice: From Phase 4, solve PYQs against the clock.

Use ICMAI's official past papers and mock or revision papers first. SAC students can also work through the CMA question bank and free CMA study material.

CMA December 2026 Mock Test Strategy

  • When to start: Day 56, after two revisions of the syllabus.
  • How often: 6–8 full mocks for Intermediate and Final (one per paper for one group), 4–6 MCQ mocks for Foundation.
  • Score analysis: Compare across mocks by paper and chapter, not just the total. Trend matters more than any single score.
  • Error log: Record question, mistake type, correct method and a re-attempt date.
  • Time management: Set a per-mark time limit and practise skipping and returning.
  • Exam conditions: Same timing as your real paper, no phone, no books.

No particular mock score guarantees success, and mock difficulty varies. Treat scores as a diagnostic tool.

CMA December 2026 Last 10 Days Preparation Plan

Counting down to your first paper:

DayFocus
Day 10Fix the two weakest chapters from the error log
Day 9Revise the numerical paper with the most formulas
Day 8PYQs on frequently missed topics
Day 7Full mock, analysed the same day
Day 6Revise conceptual and law papers from short notes
Day 5Second full mock or paper-specific timed set
Day 4Error log revision and formula sheets
Day 3Light revision of all papers, one hour each
Day 2Short notes only. Check admit card and logistics
Day 1Light recall and rest (next section)

Level adaptation: Foundation students should spend Days 7 and 5 on two-shift MCQ mocks. Both-group Intermediate and Final students should alternate Group I and II daily to rehearse the exam pattern. Avoid starting a new topic unless a whole chapter is genuinely untouched.

What to Do One Day Before the CMA Exam

  • Light revision: Read only your short notes and formula sheet, for two to three hours.
  • Admit card: Confirm it is downloaded and printed, with the correct centre and timing. See SAC's CMA admit card guide for what to check.
  • ID proof: Keep the valid photo ID stated in the admit card instructions ready.
  • Stationery: Two or three working pens, pencil, eraser and, where permitted, calculator as per ICMAI rules.
  • Route and reporting time: Plan the route and travel time. Check your allotted centre on the admit card.
  • Sleep: Aim for a normal night. Do not cram after dinner.
  • Avoid new material: A new chapter the night before adds anxiety, not marks.

Common CMA December 2026 Preparation Mistakes

  • Unrealistic timetables: A 14-hour plan collapses by Day 5. Plan for the hours you will actually study.
  • Lectures without practice: Watching is not learning until you solve.
  • Ignoring PYQs: They show you the question style, difficulty and traps.
  • Delaying revision: Revision that starts in the last week is only reading.
  • Favourite subjects only: The 40% per-paper floor punishes this.
  • Ignoring weak areas: Fix them in Phase 4, not on exam morning.
  • Mocks without analysis: Ten mocks with no error log teach less than three mocks with one.
  • Switching resources repeatedly: Choose one main source per paper.
  • Trusting unverified "important questions": Use the official syllabus and ICMAI papers.
  • Ignoring official updates: Check ICMAI notices for any change to schedules or centres.

Working students can strengthen these habits with SAC's guides on CMA study techniques, CMA study time management and how to crack CMA in the first attempt. For a structured plan alongside classes, students can explore SAC's CMA online coaching, try a free demo lecture or use the backlog support page if they are behind on the syllabus.
